Ever noticed the sizes of the tires and wheels on F1 cars? It looks a lot like 1965 with the 13" wheels and thick tires. Pirelli, the official tire manufacturer of F1, wants to change it up to something a little more relevant. That's why Pirelli slapped these 18" wheels and low profile tires on a Lotus F1 car, and is trying to convince the FIA that a switch needs to be made.
While that all sounds great, the teams might resist the change, since these modifications would require them to completely rework their suspension setups at great expense. Everything in F1 happens at great expense.
That said, we think it looks great, and we're all for making motorsport more closely related to road cars, just like the good old days.
