The Maserati Ghibli is just cheap enough to compete with BMW, Mercedes and the like at $66,900. While this has been great for the storied Italian marque's sales, it has prompted worries that Maserati would move from its lofty perch into a much less dramatic market segment. That would be sad as hell, as Maserati was once a dominant force in world motorsport, and the entrenched competition that some young upstart named Ferrari had to deal with.

Well Maserati at least wants to stop slipping further down market, and will cap production at 75,000 cars per year in order to maintain exclusivity. That's still a lot of Masers, but at least it's not a slippery slope into a world where every middle manager is driving a Maserati and nobody even recalls that this was once the big dog.
