Autonomous vehicles promise to take away the danger of human error, but the FBI still thinks they can be deadly. An internal memo reveals the bureau's concerns about criminals being able to fire weapons at pursuing police vehicles while their own car drives itself.
The FBI predicts driverless cars "will have a high impact on transforming what both law enforcement and its adversaries can operationally do with a car." While that could be a bad thing, the FBI also says the cars could help law enforcement by automatically moving out of the way.
We see why the FBI is concerned, but we wouldn't be surprised if autonomous vehicles end up with technology that refuses to flee from the cops. Of course, that would probably piss off civil liberty groups. Whatever happens everyone won't be happy.
