It’s been the topic of quite a lot of discussion lately. Will Toyota finally produce a Supra successor? According to Japan’s Nikkei newspaper – yes, and sooner than you think.

BMW and Toyota will develop a common platform for a pair of sports cars, expected to debut as early as 2017 in the form of the new BMW Z4 and – quite possibly – a ‘Supra’ badged Toyota. But unlike the GT86/FR-S/BRZ, both cars will sport different body designs and distinctly reflect both of their respective marques (ah, the FT-1 concept).

Few details abound, and we won’t speculate about 700-horsepower turbocharged 1.0L engines or all-electric powertrains, but considering the firms’ specialties, German carbon fiber and Japanese hybridization shouldn’t be out of the picture.
