Yesterday was not a good day for Spain. The defending champions dropped their second consecutive World Cup match, and combined with another Netherlands victory, the defeat eliminated Spain from the competition even with another match still to play.

To appreciate just how historically bad Spain has been, imagine this: no defending champion in the history of the World Cup has ever been eliminated after just two games. Nobody has ever competed with the level of listlessness and complacency the Spanish just put forth, and it’s something we may never see again.
