There are significant parallels between the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and the GM recall situation. Both cost an extraordinary amount of money to clean up. Both have been massive PR stumbling blocks. And it seems the latter isn’t over just yet.

GM recently announced four more recalls that affect 89,126 vehicles. The first accounts for 57,512 late-model Chevrolet Silverado, Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Sierra, and Yukon vehicles because of flaws with the base radio that prevent audible warnings if a key is left in the ignition or seatbelts are unbuckled.

The second largest recall includes 31,520 Buick Verano, Chevrolet Camaro, Cruze, and Sonic cars manufactured in 2012, that are being recalled due to a short that may cause the air bags not to deploy in a crash situation. So far only one injury has been linked to the issue.

The recalls tapers off with 61 Chevrolet Spark and Buick Encore models, as well as 33 Chevy Corvettes that face airbag malfunctions. On the bright side, these numbers are infinitely smaller than the recalls that hit in March.
