The Chevy-swallowing sinkhole that opened underneath the National Corvette Museum helped stamp that location onto the world’s map, and the museum’s board of directors is looking to keep it there.

On Wednesday, the board voted to keep a 25-foot by 45-foot-wide portion of the sinkhole intact as a permanent attraction, with space to display two of the damaged cars, permitting it poses no future safety risks to the cars or patrons.

It might seem like an odd decision, until you look at the museum’s latest revenue: attendance has risen 59 percent and overall revenue is up 65 percent since the gaping hole opened up.
