Bentley has a profound racing heritage, and with a big win last month at Silverstone – the firm’s GT3 racecar is writing its newest chapter. So where is the road-going version, you ask? It’s just arrived – sort of.

This is the new Bentley Continental GT3-R, a lightened and muscled-up version of the all-wheel-drive Continental GT V8, but not exactly a racecar for the road. Where the GT3 sports a space-frame, featherweight body panels, sequential gearbox, and rear-wheel-drive – the GT3-R does not. However, that doesn’t mean it isn’t a hooligan.

It does zero to 60mph in just 3.6 seconds, thanks in part to a weight-loss plan that has trimmed 220 pounds and its 4.0L twin-turbo V8 that puts out 572-horsepower. Torque vectoring in the AWD system aids in boosting the car out of the corners, and new titanium exhaust, carbon-silicon-carbide brakes, and hefty 21-inch wheels complete the package.

Only 300 versions will be built, so if a big barroom brawler packed into a svelte racing suit is your cup of tea – you better get your reservation in quick.
