One of the biggest obstacles for Virgin Galactic—besides, you know, making a craft capable of reaching space without killing everyone inside—has been getting FAA clearance. The process has been full of standard government bureaucracy, but now it's finally paid off. The FAA will allow Richard Branson's space tourism company to begin commercial flights this year.
The SpaceShipTwo has been given the go-ahead to launch in both New Mexico and California. Branson has been adamant about the first flights beginning in 2014, but there is still no concrete launch date. We do know, however, that the flights have long been booked.
The butterflies have to be getting stronger now.
