ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that the Buffalo Bills have agreed to send wide receiver Stevie Johnson to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a conditional fourth round pick in 2015. The pick becomes a third rounder depending upon Johnson’s performance.

Filed to ESPN: 49ers trading a conditional 2015 4th-round pick to Buffalo for WR Stevie Johnson, per sources. Pick can become a 3rd.

Johnson had his worst season as a starter last year, catching 52 passes for 597 yards and three touchdowns in 12 games. He had reached the 1000 yard mark in each of the previous three seasons, catching 82, 76, and 79 passes. He missed time last season with back, groin, and hamstring injuries that also limited him when he did play.

Johnson will join a solid receiving corps in San Francisco that includes Anquan Boldin, Michael Crabtree, and tight end Vernon Davis. With the addition of a field-stretching receiver like Johnson, the 49ers have given quarterback Colin Kaepernick yet another weapon to work with as they look to reach the Super Bowl after falling just short each of the last three seasons.

For the Bills, the trade means that they clearly believe last night’s No. 4 overall pick Sammy Watkins is ready to be the man in the Buffalo offense. With a number of talented secondaries in the AFC East, the rookie will certainly have his work cut out for him.
