We first got a glimpse of the X5 eDrive Concept last year at the Frankfurt Auto Show. Now, BMW is bringing it back to next week’s New York Auto Show with a few more details flushed in.

The eco-friendly X5 debuts with a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder, packing a hearty 245-horsepower, and pairs it with a 95hp electric motor. Thanks to its lithium-ion battery pack, the X5 is capable of 20 all-electric miles of driving, even at speeds of up to 75mph.

But underneath the green façade rests a performance animal. The X5 eDrive’s combined340-horsepower will sprint from 0-60mph in a hair less than seven seconds. That’s quicker than the standard 2.5L turbodiesel and about the same as the current BMW 328d. Hopefully BMW is serious about bringing these green-sleepers to the American market.
