One of the most surefire ways to get Americans to buy a sports car is to make it strongly recall the '60s and '70s. This is certainly the secret to the retro Mustang, Camaro, and Challenger's success, and adding on yet more throwbacks always seems to work.
It usually just doesn't work this well. The entire 2014 allotment of Dodge Challenger R/T Shakers sold out in four days. Someone at Dodge is certainly popping a champagne bottle over those 2,000 special edition sales. The Shaker, of course, features the cold air intake known in Mopar parlance as a shaker hood. It's actually affixed to the 400 hp engine, so when driving it shakes independently of the hood. 2,000 people are going to have a lot of fun this year.
