This must have been terrifying. Seeing a 7,000 horsepower engine explode just feet in front of your face would at least make you blink.
That's exactly what happened to Ron Capps at the NHRA Winternationals in Pomona, CA the other day. He had hit about 300 mph when his car decided that it had always wanted to be a convertible and just went for it. He was uninjured.
Our other question is: why did the Valvoline car pull its chute so early?
