Toyota is Working on Prius with Wireless Charging

A big step up from phones.

Electric cars are about to become even more convenient. Toyota announced today a deal with WiTricity to bring wireless charging to the Prius. WiTricity doesn't actually make the wireless chargers, but they license the technology from third parties. Toyota's been an investor since 2011, and it looks like it's about to pay off.

Back in August, Toyota Managing Officer Satoshi Ogiso said Toyota plans to have wireless charging in the Prius by 2014—a claim that's strengthened by today's announcement. Soon electric cars will be environmentally sound, cheap to power, and untethered. In other words, you'll have even less excuses for burning gas.
