After throwing for 2,676 yards with 26 touchdowns and only five interceptions, A.J. McCarron was given the Maxwell Award for the nation's most outstanding player. Even though his 2013 numbers pale in comparison to the likes of Jameis Winston and Johnny Manziel, McCarron was just as stunned as everyone else after becoming the first Alabama player to win the award. "Super surprised," he said. "I don't think I'm the best player out of the other two guys that were mentioned (Manziel, Winston), but I can't thank them enough. It's an honor to be here."
Don't feel too bad for Winston, though. The Davey O'Brien Award for the nation's best quarterback was given to the Florida State freshman quarterback, who has already set the college football freshman records for passing yards (3,820) and touchdown passes (38). Over the last seven years, the recipient of the award has gone on to win the Heisman Trophy six times.
Meanwhile, the Doak Walker Award for the nation's best running back went to Andre Williams, who becomes the first player from Boston College to capture the hardware. Will he pull a Cady Heron from Mean Girls with this trophy?
Oregon State's Brandin Cooks won the Biletnikoff Award, which is given to the nation's best wide receiver, after posting 120 catches for 1,670 yards and 13 touchdowns.
