Pro Tip: Don't speed in France, because the cops and the laws there are both frightening.

Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond were driving across France in an Aston Martin Vanquish and a Porsche 911 GT3 while filming an episode of Top Gear when they had a little problem. They were doing 143 kph (88 mph) in a 130 kph (80 mph) zone, but didn't notice that the limit had dropped to 90 kph (56 mph). The French police didn't take kindly to two Englishmen in expensive cars driving at 158% of the speedlimit, so they fined the pair all of the money they had in their wallets, and instituted a three-month driving ban. There's no court date, no way to appeal it, just harsh justice dished out cold on the spot.

Clarkson said that much of the next season of Top Gear would be filmed in Italy as a result.
