You didn't really hear about them as often as you do today. But back in 1992, there were tons and tons of NBA groupies running around. They didn't have Twitter handles, Facebook accounts, and web sites devoted to their actions. But they did have the attention of many NBA players.

We know this because Deadspin just reprinted a great story penned by writer E. Jean Carroll back in 1992 that ran in Esquire. In the piece, Carroll followed a handful of NBA groupies around to get a better sense of what their lives were like in the early 1990s, right around the time that Magic Johnson announced that he had HIV. It was a wild time for many NBA groupies and is worth a read if you've never read about the era before. Check out the piece over here. Who knew that David Robinson—yes, David Robinson—was such a coveted dude?!
