Audi's Latest Concept is a Mid-Engined Diesel R8 Off-Roader

The new Quattro should have been more like this.

This insane creation is Audi's latest concept that will officially debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show shortly. It's essentially an Audi R8 as powered by a diesel V10 and riding on suspension that's designed to kick major ass on both tarmac and dirt. It's resemblance to the Giugiaro Parcour concept is no coincidence either, as this is also a Giugiaro concept.

The V10 produces 544 horsepower and 738 ft-lbs of torque, which is enough to send the admittedly porky 4,200 lbs of concept car to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds.

We're just going to call it right here: this is what the seriously disappointing Quattro Concept should have been. This captures the essense of the ur-Quattro more than a bloated and overpriced hybrid ever could; it could tackle tarmac and dirt rallies at great speed and with some serious style. The new Quattro does nothing that the R8 V10 can't, but this can.
