Today could very well go down as one of the most important days in Major League Baseball history.
After months and months of rumors and speculation, MLB has finally made a ruling with regards to the MLB players connected to Biogenesis—a Miami clinic run by a guy named Anthony Bosch who was reportedly supplying the players with performance-enhancing drugs. MLB has decided to suspend a number of players who had ties to Biogenesis. And a lot of those suspensions will affect the players' teams both this season and in the future. So if this doesn't get guys to think twice before using PEDs, nothing will.
Here is a list of the 12 players who have been suspended by MLB for 50 games each as a result of their connections to Biogenesis:
- Texas Rangers right fielder Nelson Cruz (pictured above)
- Detroit Tigers shortstop Jhonny Peralta
- San Diego Padres shortstop Everth Cabrera
- New York Mets outfielder Jordany Valdespin
- Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Antonio Bastardo
- Houston Astros pitcher Sergio Escalona
- New York Yankees catcher Francisco Cervelli
- Seattle Mariners catcher Jesus Montero
- New York Mets outfielder Cesar Puello
- New York Yankees outfielder Fernando Martinez
- MLB free agent Jordan Norberto
- MLB free agent Fautino de los Santos
Case closed! Er, sort of. One name that you obviously don't see on this list right now is Alex Rodriguez. But don't worry. He's not off the hook. A-Rod is the only player tied to Biogenesis who is expected to appeal his suspension. So the length of his suspension has not been reported yet.
