Brook Lopez has an important season ahead of him. With the aquistion of championship vets like Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and Jason Terry, the Brooklyn Nets have a lot riding on 2014. Not only do they plan on contending for an NBA title, but they also have to deal with taking control of NYC from the New York Knicks. So far they seem to like their chances. We talked to Brooklyn's anchor in the middle about playing for Jason Kidd, his goals for the this upcoming season, and his favorite superhero, among other things.

Interview by Angel Diaz (@ADiaz456)

How's the foot, man?

It's doing well, man. I actually lose the boot soon. Finally. Been waiting for that day.

It's something minor, right?

Yeah, nothing big. So they went in there, put a bigger screw in it, it was lucky honestly because I had no pain. I didn't have pain the whole time. And we caught it just because of the post-season x-ray. We saw the screw bent in there. We decided that was better to do something now before something real bad happens.

That could've led to something worse?

Something much worse. We needed a week after the season ended to get the most possible time to heal and let myself get back in shape and ready to go.

How excited are you about this season?

Oh my goodness. You have no idea. Honestly, I caught myself dreaming about playing basketball wth these guys, and even being at practice and training camp hanging out with these guys, it's gonna be a heckuva experience.

Once you were healthy last year you had a good season. What are some of your goals
this upcoming year?

The bottom line is to win. Improve on 49 games. I think we could definitely improve over that. And really just learn from the guys on our team. When you look we have Deron, Joe, Reg [Reggie Evans] and then you look at guys like KG, Andrei Kirilenko, Paul, Jason Terry, just keep going down the list. These are guys I can learn from and help me grow my game, help me grow my team game.

Have you learned anything from them yet?

Just talking to Paul just today or hearing these other guys talking, just how focused they are, how excited they are and how set they are. It's all about winning. There are no egos. Check your egos at the door. We're out there to go and win.

Those guys have been around the block a couple times.

Absolutely. Absolutely. They know how to win. They've done it before, so they bring the experience here.

How does it feel to play for Jason Kidd? You were just playing against him the last couple years and now he's your boss.

Yeah, it's crazy. It honestly surprised me. I can't lie. Look at the kind of person he is to the Nets franchise. He's the best player the Nets ever had. He was coaching teams, very good teams, on the floor as a player. It's just a matter of him wearing a suit instead of a jersey.

Have you read any new comics?

Absolutely. Every Wednesday. I usually go buy the print issues first, instead of digital ones. But since I've been in Africa and Europe the past two weeks I've been using the digital DC Comics app and the Marvel Comics app.

What are some of the new ones you've been reading?

Batman Incorporated's finale came out. Grant Morrison's my favorite writer, so I had to get it. It was great. This is his seventh or eighth year writing Batman. It's incredible.

Who's your favorite superhero?

Batman.

Why? Because of the writing?

He's just a human but he stands amongst the superpowered, the greatest superpowered beings in the world like: Superman, Flash, Green Lantern. He's human but his drive is really made himself into a peak human.

Yeah, he's my favorite too. I always get shit for it, though, because everyone says he's not a superhero.

He's a superhero. He's right up there with Superman. But my twin brother's [Robin Lopez] favorite is the Flash and Cyclops. So it's kinda crazy that Cyclops is here [James Marsden spoke at the G-Shock event]. I sent my brother a text and I got a picture with Cyclops at a show.

How many haircuts you gonna get this season?

[Laughs] I only need one.

Are you a fan of G-Shock?

Yeah, absolutely. When I first came in the league I wasn't a really big watch guy. But then Ryan Anderson, who was really into watches, kinda got me into collecting them. We were on the road in Utah or somewhere like that, and we'd go out shopping for watches. To be here tonight and see so many different things unveiled it was an incredible experience for me. And I have to just say right now I'm going to pre-order the Eminem watch. That thing's gonna be mine.

Have you ever seen Eminem perform before?

I was fortunate enough to see him once before with Jay-Z at Yankee Stadium.

Have you been able to test out the G-Shock watches in the elements? Scuba
diving or anything like that?

No. I don't know if it's against my contract or not, man. We'll go out there we'll give it a field test. You and me, man.
