Yesterday we reported that Toyota's first hydrogen fuel cell vehicle is about to be unveiled, and will be sold in the US in just over a year. Riding on those coat-tails is this announcement from GM and Honda: the two companies are forming an alliance to bring hydrogen cars to market by 2020. Sure, it's a little late to the game when compared to Toyota, but late is better than never.
Regarding the investment in fuel cells, Honda Chairman and CEO Takanobu Ito said “Among all zero CO2 emission technologies, fuel cell electric vehicles have a definitive advantage with range and refueling time that is as good as conventional gasoline cars. Honda and GM are eager to accelerate the market penetration of this ultimate clean mobility technology, and I am excited to form this collaboration to fuse our leading fuel cell technologies and create an advanced system that will be both more capable and more affordable.”
