On this day, 11 years ago, Serena Williams defeated her sister Venus to win her first French Open. Well, history has an interesting way of repeating itself. A short while ago, No. 1-ranked Serena made quick work of No. 2-ranked Maria Sharapova, winning 6-4, 6-4 in straight sets. Sharapova has now lost 13 straight against Williams and her overall record versus the younger Williams sister sits at 2-14.

As for Serena, she is on fire right now, winning the 2012 Wimbledon, 2012 U.S. Open, 2012 WTA Tour Championship, an Olympic gold medal in women's singles and now the French Open all within the last year. Overall, this is her 16th Grand Slam title.
