UCLA star Shabazz Muhammad didn't turn into an NBA prospect overnight. Like most NBA prospects, he worked extremely hard to get to where he's at today. But, he also had the backing of his father Ron Holmes, who has been grooming his son to be an NBA player ever since the day he was born.
In a pretty fascinating new Los Angeles Times piece, the former USC star talks about all of the things he's done over the course of the last 20 years to put his son in the position he's in today. And, it extends way beyond just shooting Js in the backyard and watching game tapes. There have also been countless cross-country trips, college campus visits, and even an NCAA investigation that the father and son have had to deal with in order to turn Muhammad into a player worthy of being a top-5 pick in the NBA Draft.
Before UCLA takes on Minnesota in the 2013 NCAA Tournament tonight in what could be Shabazz's final game in a Bruins uniform, check out the piece—which is called "A father's hoops dream: Minting an NBA millionaire"—to see exactly how Holmes transformed Muhammad into a star.
