Back in January, we told you about the Maloof family closing in on an agreement that would move the Kings franchise back to Seattle for the start of the 2013-14 NBA season. While there remained a slight possibility that a last-minute deal could be reached that would keep them in Sacramento or LeBron James would step up and buy the team, it looks like all that is a thing of the past.
According to King 5 of Seattle, NBA commissioner David Stern has revealed that the investment group of Chris Hansen and Steve Ballmer have officially filed for relocation to Seattle, prior to the March 1 deadline. Stern added that the application points out the team would play in the KeyArena for two, or possibly, three years. While the commish did say that the group of Hansen/Ballmer is "very strong," such issues as support for the team in Sacramento will play a role in the decision-making process.
