In a press release this week Toyota championed the impressive release of the Prius c, its newest member to the energy-efficient family.

"In its first three days on the market, it sold 1,201 units, making it one Toyota's fastest-selling vehicles and eclipsing Chevrolet Volt and Nissan Leaf sales for the entire month of February."

Three days of sales beating out an entire month?  Sounds pretty impressive, right? Not so fast. In all reality, this proclamation isn't so shocking at all. Lets take a look at the numbers. The Prius c, which was released on March 12, starts at $18,950 and is rated at 53 city mpg with its 1.5-Liter hybrid engine. The Volt starts at $39,145 (before tax refunds) and offers 35 mpge of emissions-free driving on one full use of the electric side of its gas and electric combo engine. The 100 percent electric Leaf has an MSRP of $35,200 (before tax refunds) and can go 73 miles on a full charge.

Does Toyota's news make a little more sense now? This shouldn't even be a comparison considering the Prius c doesn't offer an all-electric option, but Toyota is insisting on using any chance to combat against its competitors. Of course a car under 20 grand is more attractive than a car closer to 40. We just wanted to clear that up for you.
