Nike co-founder Phil Knight is officially the richest person in all of sports, and he's one of the biggest philanthropists, too. After donating a record-breaking sum to Stanford University in February, Knight has now pledged a contribution to the fight against Fanconi anemia, a condition known for causing an increased risk of many types of cancer.
According to The Register-Guard, Knight will give $10 million over the next 10 years to the David Frohnmayer Scientific Research Fund, an initiative named after a former University of Oregon president that operates under the Fanconi Anemia Research Fund. Two of Frohnmayer's daughters died from Fanconi anemia, and he later died of prostate cancer in March 2015.
"A major focus of these game-changing initiatives will be preventing and curing the cancers that are now the primary cause of death in adults with FA," Pamela Norr, Fanconi Anemia Research Fund Executive Director, said.
