Dazie Williams lost her 22-year-old son Joshua Woods to sneaker violence in 2012, and had more words for Nike and Michael Jordan today before the start of the trial. The Chron reports that Williams was accompanied by family and friends as she spoke to the press at the Harris County Criminal Courthouse this morning.
Despite receiving a personal call from Jordan following the death of her son in 2012, Williams believes that Nike still hasn't done anything to help prevent more violence since her son's tragedy. Woods was gunned down after purchasing "Bred" Air Jordan XIs in 2012, leading to a plead from his family for Nike to put a stop to this violence. "My son's life was worth more than a pair of shoes. Nike and Michael Jordan didn't pull the trigger that took my son's life, but with great power comes great responsibility," said Williams. There is no question that brands can do more to prevent sneaker violence, and hopefully this mother's efforts will help prevent future crimes.
