"What are those?!" The phrase has been used ad nauseum since going viral earlier this year and has been the most popular way to clown on someone's shoes. While funny at first, it lacks originality and is honestly quite annoying. If you're looking for a proper way to roast a friend's kicks, you need look no further than this epic ongoing Twitter slam involving one man's pair of Vans.

On February 20, 2015, John Hendren, known as @fart on Twitter, tweeted out an image of a pair of Vans Era which would unknowingly  forever change the course of his life.

I don't remember buying these gaudy mother fuckin shoes but am i gonna wear em? you bet your ass pic.twitter.com/jOWNWYaxin

Upon seeing the tweet, two other members - @weedguy420boner and @Arr - chimed in to offer their opinions on @fart's sneakers.

Look like designer bowling shoes @fart
@fart shoes look like a gigolo’s couch man

And while most would simply tweet and keep it moving, what happened next would become internet gold. @Arr and @weedguy420boner proceeded to go on the most epic roasting of one's sneakers ever recorded on Twitter. Amongst the tweets, the following stood out for their originality and creativity:

@fart dude was Debarge having a garage sale
@fart so did you just snap the heels off some shoes a chick was wearing in a zz top video or what
@fart did someone make these out of one of scott weiland's top hats from a stone temple pilots video
@fart what are the exact legal grounds to declare a mistrial on a pair of shoes
@Arr @fart shoes came with a bottle of butter popcorn flavor vodka

Needless to say, @fart wasn't too happy regarding the roast and tweeted his sentiments:

@Arr i'm legit mad at you dude

The roast, which again, started on February 20, would go on for over EIGHT MONTHS. It takes a true commitment to trolling and the result is one of the most entertaining things you'll read all year.

As you can imagine, a roasting of this nature could easily test the limits of friendship. But you'll be happy to know that both @Arr and @fart squashed any beef they had and are currently still friends.
