You're going to hear a lot of talk about the Nike Mag today, which is rumored to be releasing with auto-lacing technology — something that not even the O.G.s actually did. However, before you get too excited, keep in mind that this speculated launch already has arguably more fanfare and hype than the 2011 drop, meaning you'll have to compete with hoards of sneakerheads AND Back to the Future enthusiasts for these.

With that in mind, we've got some good news: you don't have to necessarily own a pair of Mags to enjoy the futuristic perk that is auto-lacing. Popular Science has highlighted a DIY designer named Blake Blevin who's been toiling away on a power lacing setup since as early as 2010, when she discovered that the technology had more potential than simply satisfying our thirst for nostalgia.

"I started hearing from people with disabilities," Blevin said, who credits her grandmother for helping her realize how this tech could benefit those with Parkinson's and similar conditions.

Since then, she's launched a successful Kickstarter campaign for the product — something many have attempted and failed — and is now ready to enter the beta phase, just in time for the official release of the Mags.

Made to order and priced at $250, Blevin understands that the attachment may be too expensive for some to afford, so she's also offered complete instructions on how to create your very own power lacing setup from home. It's going to require some tools and hardware, but anything's better than dropping resell on a real pair of Mags, right?

To place an order, visit Blevin's site here, and if you're feeling crafty, check out the DIY steps over at Instructables.
