When the Air Max 97 first hit the scene back in 1997, Nike wasn’t shy about talking inspiration. They had looked to the new Japanese bullet trains that were revolutionizing travel in the archipelago nation, connecting cities with super fast transportation. The silver upper was a direct draw from those trains, while the full foot air bubble was a first in Nike’s Air Max program at the time. The red swooshes gave a great counter to the silver.

In Nike’s recent quest to re-interpret their entire archive, the Air Max 97 OG got reinvented with engineered mesh, and UDFTD still has some pairs at a pretty steep discount. Check them out for $93 (down from $155).
