Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo was a force to be reckoned with in Spain’s La Liga last season. To celebrate his record-breaking year, Nike has created a special edition CR Mercurial IX soccer cleat that exemplifies all that Cristiano has achieved during the 2011/2012 season. On the lateral side of the boot, there are seven numbers—each representing a different feat. The number 1 represents his first Spanish league title; 9 for the goals scored for Portugal; 14 for the amount of games played for the national team; 19 for being the first player to score against all 19 rival teams competing in La Liga in a season; 27 for his age in 2012, 55 for the matches played in all competitions; 60 for the number of goals scored in all competitions.
"Last season was a very special one for me, helping my team and country achieve success," said Cristiano Ronaldo. "It’s great to celebrate these achievements and also have a great pair of Mercurial boots to recognize the moment. I’ll enjoy playing in them for sure."
A hundred pairs of the CR Mercurial IX will be available starting February 7 at Nike.
