Warner Bros. Confirms 'Wonder Woman 2' Is Happening

Warner Bros. representatives confirmed the news during Comic-Con International.

To absolutely no one’s surprise, a Wonder Woman sequel is on the way.

Warner Bros. and DC officially announced the project during San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, revealing Gal Gadot would reprise her role as Diana, princess of the Amazons, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Though the studio did not confirm the sequel until this weekend, Wonder Woman 2 seemed very likely considering the initial film's critical and commercial success. The Patty Jenkins-directed flick has broken box office records around the world and is expected to become the most lucrative summer movie of 2017. Deadline reports Wonder Woman is set to surpass the $387 million mark this weekend, dethroning Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 as the highest-grossing movie of the season.

Warner Bros. and DC have not revealed any information about the sequel’s plot; however, Jenkins has shared where she wants the story to take place.

“The story will take place in the U.S., which I think is right. She’s Wonder Woman. She’s got to come to America. It’s time,” she told EW last month. “I realized that Wonder Woman 2 is its own great movie. I made Wonder Woman. Now I want to make Wonder Woman 2. It’s a beautiful story to tell, an important time to tell it and with people that I love.”

Warner Bros. also confirmed The Flash movie is in the works. According to Deadline, the upcoming film will be called Flashpoint, and will likely be based on Geoff Johns' 2011 series of the same name. The Flashpoint logo was also included in the Warner Bros. sizzle reel, which featured a list of potential movie titles, like Shazam, Suicide Squad 2, The Batman (with Ben Affleck’s Batman shown), Batgirl, Justice League Dark, and Green Lantern Corps.
