Larry David's impersonation of Bernie Sanders on Saturday Night Live was so spot-on and hilarious that even noted curmudgeon Larry David found it impossible to resist. As it turns out, there may be a genetic reason.

During a Curb Your Enthusiasm panel at the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Wednesday, David was confronted by a reporter who had seen a screener of the comic's upcoming appearance on the PBS genealogy series Finding Your Roots. David, in a moment almost too close to his television alter ego to actually be true, then spilled the beans on his episode's biggest secret—that he was, in fact, distantly related to Sanders.

"He's in the line...like a third cousin, or something," David said. "I was very happy about that. I figured there was some connection."

Not joining in his happiness? Probably the creators of Finding Your Roots, who wanted David to keep the relationship a secret until the show aired. "They told me not to say anything," he admitted.

Curb Your Enthusiasm begins its new season on October 1. We'll have to see if they listened to any of our ideas.
