Curb Your Enthusiasm has been off the air six years, leaving fans desperate for any crumb of information they can get their hands on. They might have just gotten the biggest morsel yet, if rumors swirling about a return date for the ninth season are to be believed.
JB Smoove, a critical member of the Curb Your Enthusiasm cast, was spotted by fans and other artists around the 10th annual Roots Picnic concert in Philadelphia on Saturday. The comedian was in town for part-business, part pleasure, including a performance at Punchline Philly comedy club on Friday night.Â

Nothing out of the ordinary, right? Wrong. According to Okayplayer—the taste-making collective founded by Roots drummer Questlove—Smoove took the stage during Roots Picnic on Saturday afternoon, and reportedly revealed Curb Your Enthusiasm would return on October 1.

As of right now, this is still highly speculative. There has been very little in the way of secondary confirmation of Smoove's claim aside from Reddit threads and echoing of the Okayplayer tweet on social media, with no video emerging of him saying this yet:

But if anyone would know about the return date for Curb, Smoove would be high atop the list. He has been featured in the promotional material HBO released for the show, and was one of the first people to tease the possibility of a Curb comeback last June. Smoove is clearly tight with Curb creator Larry David, and when we spoke to him about a return date earlier this year, he gave a much vaguer answer of "late in the year."
We have reached out to HBO to see if the network will confirm Smoove's assertion that we're getting new Curb episodes this fall, and we'll update this story if and when we hear back.
In any case, it seems like we're inching closer and closer to the return of one of the greatest comedies ever, and that's pretty, pretty, pretty good news.
