There's a lot on offer in the world of podcasting right now, as pretty much any niche topic has a niche podcast to accompany it. In the world of comedy podcasting, we'd like to think Australia does a pretty good job (despite how male-dominated it is).

Here are, in no particular order, 5 of the best.

5. Aunty Donna

Australian comedy trio Aunty Donna

You may know hilarious and unstable Australian comedy trio Aunty Donna from such videos as this weird, Play School-inspired musical about Australia’s bicycle gang wars:

However, not a lot of people know that the massively successful Australian sketch group also have a podcast, and it’s just as irreverent as you’d expect. Fans of succinct, coherent conversation best be warned here, not much of the Aunty Donna podcast makes sense. However, if you are a fan of Aunty Donna’s sketch-work, then this is exactly what you’d expect.

Must-Listen Episode

For a great demonstration of what the podcast is, and a great guest, you can’t go past the latest episode number 49 with Tim Minchin.

4. TOFOP

Wil Anderson and Charlie Clausen have been hosting TOFOP since 2010

Comedian Wil Anderson and actor Charlie Clausen’s podcast TOFOP has been emitting from our earphones since 2010, and it has provided some hilarious episodes throughout the years. The intro by Australian voiceover personality John Deeks perfectly sets the tone for what the podcast is, utter shit-talking. You would think hearing two white middle-class Australians talk smack would get old quick, but listening to Wil and Charlie talk about Batman, Adam Sandler, and obscure pop-culture artefacts never fails to be entertaining and hilarious. Think of it like two dumb friends accompanying you wherever you go.

Must-Listen Episode

It’s hard to look past ‘Episode 33 – The Anti-Crust’ here. Listening to Anderson and Clausen brainstorm a generic Gary Busey 1980’s action film is classic TOFOP.

3. Do Go On

The Do Go On Podcast

If you are a fan of American podcast The Dollop, then you will love Do Go On. Comedians Matt Stewart, Jess Perkins and Dave Warneke alternate researching a topic and reporting it back to each other. Not only is it hilarious, it’s also sometimes informative (sometimes) and highlights the funniest of obscure Australian history that you may not have even been aware existed.

Must-Listen Episode

Episode number 78 has Matt reporting on the story of Steve Irwin, and it’s just as great as the animal-loving man himself.

2. I Love Green Guide Letters

I Love Green Guide Letters Podcast

If recent podcasts have told us anything, it’s that even the world’s most niche topic can produce a great podcast. I Love Green Guide Letters sees (hears?) comedian Steele Saunders read and mock whining and pedantic letters to The Age television and radio lift out ‘The Green Guide’ to his comedian guests. The letters, usually written by retired Ocean Grove residents never cease to amaze, and the riffing from the comedian host and guests has produced some comedic gold over the years.

Must-Listen Episode

It’s hard to look past the incredible episode 71 with former Media Watch host Jonathan Holmes here, but since it’s no longer available, we are just going to ahead and recommend any episode featuring the hilarious Demi Lardner, like this one here:
