A 37-year-old Texas man is suing a woman for texting during a screening of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Brandon Vezmar filed the claim against the unnamed woman last week, according to the Austin American-Statesman. Vezmar is seeking a whopping $17.31, i.e. ticket price reimbursement.
The Statesman crew reached the woman in question via telephone Tuesday, who confirmed she had been unaware of any claims against her and requested that her name not be publicized. "This is crazy," she said. Vezmar, apparently, very much disagrees with this assessment. According to his side of the story, the date in question was ruined by the exchange of text messages in the middle of a round of motion picture enjoyment.
"It was kind of a first date from hell," Vezmar said Tuesday. "This is like one of my biggest pet peeves." According to Vezmar, the woman "activated" her phone "at least 10-20 times" within 15 minutes to both send and read text messages. When Vezmar suggested the woman leave the theater if she needed to engage in texting, she did so. However, she never returned. Additionally, Vezmar alleges, this exit left him without a ride. The woman admitted texting to the Statesman Tuesday, but disputes its potential for distraction. She claimed to have only texted "two or three times."
