Just one day after her daughter Carrie Fisher passed away, actress Debbie Reynolds has died at Cedars-Sinai hospital as a result of a stroke. She was 84 years old.

Her son, Todd Fisher, confirmed the news to Variety on Wednesday.

According to earlier reports, Reynolds was rushed to the hospital at around 1 p.m. PT on Wednesday, after suffering a “possible stroke” at Todd’s Beverly Hills residence. She was reportedly at the home to discuss funeral arrangements for Carrie, who died Tuesday morning, just days after she had a heart attack on a flight from London to Los Angeles.

“She wanted to be with Carrie,” Todd said to Variety.

The Hollywood legend was considered one of the top actresses/singers from the 20th century—delivering iconic performances in classic movies like Singin’ in the Rain, How the West Was Won, and The Unsinkable Molly Brown, for which she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. In 1969, she headlined her fist sitcom, The Debbie Reynolds'Show, and went on to appear in many other hit TV series such as Alice, The Golden Girls,The Love Boat, and Will & Grace. Her last acting role was in the TV movie Behind the Candelabra, co-starring Matt Damon and Michael Douglas.

In January of 2015, Reynolds was given the SAG lifetime achievement award. She also received the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at this year's Academy Awards.

Following the tragic news, friends and colleagues took to social media to express their condolences.
