In addition to revealing his time-travel wish of telling his younger self to "shut the fuck up," What Women Want star Mel Gibson confirmed to Stephen Colbert Tuesday that he's all in on a sequel to The Passion of the Christ. Though Gibson estimated that fans of the divisive 2004 slice of gore would probably have to wait a few years, he noted he's already hard at work figuring out how to defy the predictability of the sequel's widely read source material.

"It's probably about three years off because it's a big subject," Gibson said during a lengthy Late Show sit-down, revealing the sequel's title to be The Resurrection. When pressed by Colbert to explain how he planned to beef up the "action" of the story, in which Mr. Christ is said to have risen from the dead, Gibson kept his answer decidedly mysterious.

"It's more than a single event," Gibson said. "It's an amazing event, and to underpin that with the things that are around it is really the story, to sort of enlighten what that means. It's not just about the event, it's not some kind of chronological telling of just that event. That could be boring. And you would think, oh, we've read that. But what are the other things around it that happened?" The film's villains, Gibson added, would exist "in another realm" instead of just hanging out in the traditional sense.

The original Christbagged a seemingly impossible $611 million at the worldwide box office, meaning the stakes are pretty damn high for Gibson's Resurrection. If dude really wants to make sure theater-goers of all ages turn out in droves, he might want to throw in a few memes.
