Leonardo DiCaprio isn't mucking about when it comes to making sure everyone peeps his new climate change documentary. The just-announced recipient of this year's Hollywood Documentary Award made a surprise appearance on Friday's episode of the Ellen DeGeneres Show to discuss Before the Flood and to urge voters to choose a candidate who's down with actual science when they hit the polls next week.

"This was a three-year endeavor on behalf of Fisher Stevens, the director, and myself," DiCaprio, who showed up to DeGeneres' studio with just a few hours' notice, explained. "We literally traveled all around the world from Greenland to Indonesia. We got to speak to some incredible world leaders, some fantastic scientists. We've got President Barack Obama in the documentary. We have the Pope in the documentary. We're basically trying to convey the science of climate change to the general public. This is happening faster than anyone could have predicted. This is a very urgent issue."

DiCaprio reminded the audience that this year has been a particularly enlightening period regarding climate science, as 2016 will go down as the hottest year in recorded history. July, which you might recall was sweaty AF, already stands as the hottest month ever. To make sure those in positions of power finally start taking this issue seriously, DiCaprio has some very simple advice: elect wisely.

"We need leaders that want to take action on this issue, that believe in modern science," DiCaprio said. "Please vote." Before the Flood is currently available for free streaming via YouTube until Nov. 6, meaning you still have plenty of time to peep before Election Day:
