The forthcoming third season of American Crime Story, centered on the murder of designer Gianni Versace, just scored a star who's no stranger to the Ryan Murphy universe. Lady Gaga has been tapped to portray Donatella Versace in Versace/Cunanan: American Crime Story, Us Weeklyreported Friday.

FX renewed the Murphy property last month, just two months after teasing details of a Hurricane Katrina-focused second season. The award-winning series' third season will center on the 1997 assassination of designer Gianni Versace by serial killer Andrew Cunanan. After fatally shooting Versace at his home in Miami, Cunanan later committed suicide. Versace was Cunanan's fifth victim. Though Versace/Cunanan is set to start shooting simultaneously alongside Katrina in 2017, the seasons will air separately.

The People v. O.J. Simpson, the public's introduction to the American Crime Story vibes, proved to be an immediate critical and commercial success for FX. As the network announced back in April, the series was ultimately crowned the most-watched new series of the year. The much-discussed retelling of the 1995 Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman murder case averaged 12.6 million viewers across both linear and non-linear platforms, meaning we can probably expect many more seasons to come.

Gaga, who's previously appeared on the American Horror Story seasons Hotel and Roanoke, scored her fourth No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart with Joanne last week. The album earned just over 200,000 equivalent album sales off the strength of single "Perfect Illusion" and a performance on the Tom Hanks-hosted episode of Saturday Night Live.
