Hopefully you caught Sam Liu's R-rated DC entry, Batman: The Killing Joke, earlier this year. The animated take on Alan Moore and Brian Bolland's 1988 graphic novel of the same name endured its fair share of controversy, something that will surely inform the hype surrounding next year's R-rated Justice League Dark.

The animated Warner Bros. Home Video production is directed by Jay Oliva, the same guy who did storyboard work on movies like Deadpool and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Based on the DC Comics story crafted by Peter Milligan and Mikel Janin, Oliva's Justice League Dark sees Batman (Jason O’Mara) gathering a team of classic DC heroes to stand against some hella rare supernatural threats.

"Batman is like the audience's eyes and ears in Justice League Dark," O'Mara, who's also appeared in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Batman: Bad Blood, told ComiConverse in October. "There are loads of opportunities for comedy because there is a ton of really weird stuff going on and Batman doesn't understand any of it! It's funny because it's a darker tone for a Justice League title, but to me, it's a lighter tone for Batman. After all, Batman is already the personification of dark, so there's only one way to go!"
