Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's Jumanji, which is thankfully more of a "continuation" and not a reboot, had everybody dropping all kinds of critical tweets earlier this week after a couple cast photos hit Instagram. Some took issue with Karen Gillan's costume. Others simply weren't feeling the Tropic Thunder meets The Lost World vibes. To hopefully put the minds of antsy fans at ease, both Johnson and co-star Kevin Hart decided to give us a closer look at the behind-the-scenes hustle that's bringing Jumanji back to cinemas.
"We're deep in the jungle," Johnson said on Instagram Thursday. "I believe I'm discovering new land, new territories. You can see that this is as real as it gets." According to Johnson, dude is even out on the set with no water or food. "I've been catching fish with my bare hands that I don't even recognize," Johnson said. "They have three heads. I'm hallucinating out here. I've had zero contact with the outside world."
Hart shared a less dramatic clip from the set, lamenting the presence of annoying bugs and praising co-stars Jack Black and Gillan. "There is never a dull moment!" Hart said.
As for the controversy surrounding Gillan's attire, she promised Wednesday that the decision to go with "child-sized clothes" would make perfect sense to fans when they saw the actual movie:
This not-exactly-a-reboot Jumanji, which also stars Nick Jonas and Rhys Darby, is directed by Jake Kasdan. Though Kasdan is indeed sadly one of the people responsible for Sex Tape, he was also behind the kinda underrated 2002 comedy Orange County. Jumanji will bring all this silly speculation to an end when it hits theaters July 28, 2017.
