This summer's The Purge: Election Year made a disturbing amount of money at the box office, meaning you know damn well there will be many more Purges to come. Director James DeMonaco, who has helmed and penned all three entries in the ultraviolent franchise thus far, revealed Thursday he also has designs on bringing The Purge to TV.

"The idea of why I like the idea of a maybe 10 hour TV thing on this, the one thing you really can't do on the films is, just because of mere real estate and time, is you can't get into the nuance and complexity that would drive someone to commit a terrible act on this night," DeMonaco toldCinema Blend Thursday. The director described the prospective pick-up as an "interwoven anthology" series, ideally involving multiple storylines that would be intercut with flashbacks.

"It will be interesting to show those arcs, those dramatic and complex arcs that get people to where they pick up a gun or a knife and kill someone else," DeMonaco said. "I think there's something cool that we can do with the real estate of TV—10 hours, potentially."

As for when fans should expect to see this 10-hour block of seemingly not-safe-for-cable purging, the development process is said to be "moving quickly" as higher-ups work out boring shit like money and contracts.

The Purge: Election Year continued the dystopian franchise's pattern of decidedly mixed reviews coupled with decidedly bombastic box office numbers, ultimately scoring $115 million worldwide. As for plans for The Purge 4, that is definitely a thing that's going to happen. Just don't expect DeMonaco to slide back into his usual role of director. "I don't think I'll direct, between you and I," DeMonaco toldCinema Blend. "You can print that, I mean. I'm thinking of maybe writing or at least producing it, to make sure it stays true to what I like about the movies."
