Having firmly delivered on his promise to silence the incessant fish jokes surrounding the Aquaman character, Jason Momoa now has bigger fish to fry more important things to worry about. As revealed by the Wrap Wednesday, the main villain in the forthcoming Aquaman standalone film will be none other than his greatest foe, Black Manta.

In the comics, the classic DC villain has been the subject of multiple origin stories throughout his history. However, it's safe to assume that Black Manta (a.k.a. David) will crash into Aquaman's life on a movie-ready quest for revenge. That's what villains are all about, after all.

Black Manta, Aquaman's least favorite dude

"The kind of filmmaker that I am, even my darker horror films generally are still very fun and I think that's important for me and the kind of films I make," Aquaman director James Wan toldIGN in March. "Aquaman is a character that a lot of people have made fun of over the years and I just think it's fun to actually show a really different, cool, badass side to this character but, at the same time, let's not forget to have fun with it."

Though Aquaman, which also stars Amber Heard and Willem Dafoe, isn't due until 2018, fans can catch more of the aquatic hero in next year's Justice League. Zack Snyder, whose previous DC film Batman v Superman both angered the general public and briefly introduced Momoa's take on Aquaman, will direct a cast that also includes Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher, Henry Cavill, and Amy Adams.
