List’s can be very divisive can't they? Hell even our lists can rub you, our fellow readers, the wrong way. So no doubt the BBC Culture’s poll on the 100 Best Films of the 21st Century will divide opinion. Particularly when they picked David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive for the number one spot.
A poll of of 177 film critics across the world were asked to pick the best that cinema has offered since the turn of the millennium and they decided that Lynch’s surrealist masterpiece was the best thing to hit the silver screen.
The top ten list includes beloved classics such as the Coen brothers excellent No Country for Old Men and Hayao Miyazaki’s enchanting Japanese anime Spirited Away.

Surprise entries in the list includes; Mad Max: Fury Road (ranked 19), Finding Nemo (ranked at 96) and Spike Lee’s highly underrated 25th Hour (ranked 26). Christopher Nolan entered the top 100 list with three films; Inception, Memento and The Dark Knight—which was the only comic film to feature in the list.

Writing for the BBC, Guardian film critic Luke Buckmaster states that one of the many reasons Mulholland Drive is one of the best films of the 2000s is due to the "brilliant commentary on Hollywood’s machinations".
