Kristen Stewart is speaking candidly about her relationship with Alicia Cargile for the first time, revealing in a new interview with Elle UK that she's "really in love." Stewart and Cargile have dated off and on this year, with People most recently spotting the couple at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival where Stewart's Café Society had its world premiere.

"I think also right now I'm just really in love with my girlfriend," Stewart told Elle UK of her relationship with Cargile, a film producer. "We've broken up a couple of times and gotten back together, and this time I was like, 'Finally, I can feel again.'"

Stewart also compared her relationship with Cargile to the media's trivialization of her previous relationships, noting that she's now happier than ever. "We were turned into these characters and placed into this ridiculous comic book, and I was like, 'That's mine. You're making my relationship something that it's not,'" Stewart said. "I didn't like that. But then it changed when I started dating a girl. I was like, 'Actually, to hide this provides the implication that I'm not down with it or I'm ashamed of it.' So I had to alter how I approached being in public. It opened my life up and I'm so much happier."

Back in May, Stewart spoke on the importance of rejecting specificity outright. "When I was dating a guy, I would never talk about my relationships to anyone," Stewart toldVariety at the time. "I feel the same way now." When pressed further on the topic during the interview, she kept her response brief and to the point: "Me not defining it right now is the whole basis of what I'm about," she said. "If you don't get it, I don't have time for you."
