Sad Ben Affleck doesn't have to be so sad anymore. The extended cut of Zack Snyder's divisive Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is hitting Digital HD June 28 and physical formats July 19, meaning now is the time to soak in the R-rated vibes of the film's Collider-premiered trailer. In addition to fresh characters not originally included in the theatrical version, Batman v Superman 2.0 promises even more Snyder-esque mayhem.
Wanted 30 more minutes of Snyder's take on Gotham City? You got it. What about Alfred popping off a great "So falls the House of Wayne" line? You got it. One of the biggest highlights of the R-rated cut, however, is (finally!) the big reveal of Jena Malone's previously mysterious character, seen briefly in the trailer praising Amy Adams' reporting abilities:
This fan-pleasing revisit of the film, which also apparently features some shots of Affleck taking a somber shower, bodes well for major studios' growing love of R-rated versions. Though Batman v Superman was theatrically released with a PG-13 rating, a burden shared by the forthcoming Suicide Squad, the hard R has risen and will clearly continue to flourish. So maybe that means we'll soon get an R-rated extended edition of Sad Ben Affleck?
Snyder is currently hard at work on Justice League, which the director told IGN in March is "a bit lighter" than Batman v Superman. "One of the things that lightens it is having Flash and characters that are more optimistic," Snyder said. "Batman v Superman in particular is two characters who are at a crisis of conscience that brings them together."
