A Texas middle school teacher is in custody after allegedly having sex with one of her students. 24-year-old Alexandria Vera surrendered to Houston authorities Wednesday morning after Montgomery County police say she engaged in a sexual relationship with her then 13-year-old student, whose name has not been released.

Vera reportedly told police their relationship started last September, during summer school, after the student signed up for one of her classes. According to People, he tried to get in touch through Instagram, and she ignored him. When he stopped showing up for class, however, she reached out, and the middle schooler responded by asking for her number.

After agreeing to meet with him, the pair reportedly spent their first date driving around and kissing. The next day, they supposedly had sex in his home while his parents weren’t around. By October, he was introducing her as his girlfriend. Vera said they "had sex on almost a daily basis at her home" and that they were "in love."

She also claimed his parents were supportive of the illegal relationship, telling police they even allowed him to stay overnight at her house on many occasions. Court documents suggest she would drive him home in the morning so he could catch the bus to school.

When she told police in January that she had been impregnated by her student, she said his parents were excited. She also admitted to having an abortion after someone from Child Protective Services questioned her at school.

PerBuzzfeed, she never admitted a relationship with the underage student to CPS but gave them her phone number. After some prying, investigators discovered a number of text messages that corroborated her story. Vera is being charged with continuous sexual abuse of a child and, according to Fox News, has been fired.

Montgomery County police didn't immediately respond to Complex's request for comment.
