Being a medical professional is extremely stressful. Perhaps that's why this doctor in China needed a dose of cool, mentholy goodness while examining a patient recently. Sure, he probably knows better than anyone that it causes cancer, emphysema, asthma, heart disease, stroke and erectile dysfunction (though something tells me that's not a problem for this dude), but he definitely looks cooler than the rest of those un-chill doctors.
The Chinese government, however, was not cool with the smoking doctor, at all, the South China Morning Postreports. After video of the doctor holding the cigarette while adjusting a scanning device went viral on social media, the doctor was fined the equivalent of a couple thousand dollars and suspended from work for a week.
A representative of his employer, the central hospital in Maji in Henan province, said the doctor, who was not named, had breached a smoking ban and damaged the image of the medical centre.
Maybe this doctor is just a really big Mad Men fan, though.
Or maybe it was peer pressure, because everybody's doing it. A recent study showed that something like 68 percent of Chinese men are smokers, according toQuartz.
But really, when it comes down to it, wouldn't you still trust a doctor who smokes more than a doctor who vapes?
