That forthcoming R-rated Baywatch movie just landed the original watcher of bays himself, Mr. David Hasselhoff. Hasselhoff, also a confirmed god thanks to other memorable roles in Knight Rider and the Oscar-snubbed The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, joins previously announced stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Zac Efron. Johnson revealed the inevitable casting decision on Facebook, noting "there ain’t no bay" without "the Hoff." Indeed.
The Rock is already playing Baywatch lead Mitch Buchannon, meaning Hasselhoff's surprise casting could result in anything from a tiny cameo to a fully developed new character. Given Johnson's previous promise that this take on Baywatch would be "big, fun, and RATED R," the possibilities for director Seth Gordon to really hassle the Hoff are virtually endless. Also, as noted by The Rock himself, viewers will now be gifted with Hasselhoff's "glistening chest hair."
However, for Hasselhoff's fellow Baywatch veteranPamela Anderson, this blockbuster revival hasn't yet grabbed her attention enough to join the ranks. "I haven’t turned it down completely yet," Anderson told ET Canada in February, "but I have turned down what they offered me." Adding that Baywatch was a "huge part" of her life, Anderson revealed she was still considering a possible cameo but wasn't sure how it would benefit her legacy.
Johnson and Efron will be joined by Alexandra Daddario, Ilfenesh Hadera, and Hannibal Buress for the R-rated homage that Johnson describes as "Avengers meets Anchorman." The film, which kicked off production last month in Georgia, swims into theaters on May 19, 2017.
